JAMES & MATTHEW'S WEDDING AT THE HACKNEY

James and Matthew joyful wedding celebration at The Hackney East London venue

James & Matthew's wedding at The Hackney was confident, warm, and built for celebration. With their closest friends and family for dinner and more joining after dark, this was a day designed to grow: starting intimate, ending triumphant, with a live pianist scoring the journey between.

From a morning ceremony at Hackney Town Hall to a dancefloor that didn't quit until closing, every element felt purposeful without being precious. The kind of wedding where the food is ambitious, the music is live, and the guest list expands as the night deepens.

THE CEREMONY

James and Matthew wedding ceremony at Hackney Town Hall

James & Matthew were married at Hackney Town Hall, keeping things local and letting the day unfold within a single postcode. The ceremony was unhurried and quietly emotional, with vows exchanged in front of their nearest before the whole party moved together to The Hackney.

There's something grounding about staying in one neighbourhood. No long transfers, no fractured energy. Just a short journey from ceremony to celebration, with the afternoon stretching ahead.

ARRIVING AT THE HACKNEY

Guests arrived together, stepping into The Hackney to find drinks already flowing and a grazing table laid with samosas the couple's family had prepared. It was a personal touch that set the tone immediately: this would be a wedding shaped by the people in the room, not by convention.

The pianist had already set up, and as guests settled into conversation, the first notes began to fill the space. Welcome drinks stretched comfortably into the afternoon, giving everyone time to arrive, reconnect, and ease into the celebration ahead.

THE WEDDING BREAKFAST

Two speeches opened the meal, delivered before the starters arrived. It's a choice that works: guests are seated, attentive, and the formalities are handled before the food takes over.

The in-house kitchen delivered a seafood-forward menu with real ambition. Starters offered a choice between Creamy Polenta with Wild Mushrooms and Basil Oil, or Seared Scallops with Edamame, Yuzu, and Olive Crumb, the latter bringing brightness and bite. For mains, Lobster Ravioli arrived in a rich Bisque with Chive Oil, while others chose Roast Chicken Supreme with Mushroom and Sage Cream over Herby Crushed Potatoes. A Handkerchief Pasta tossed in Fresh Basil Pesto kept things elegant for those not eating meat or fish.

Throughout dinner, the pianist played on, his sets weaving between courses and conversation. Dessert was Biscoff Tiramisu: indulgent, crowd-pleasing, and gone quickly.

STYLE NOTES

Elegant styling and table settings at James Matthew Hackney wedding

The styling throughout was confident without being overdone. The couple let The Hackney's industrial character do the heavy lifting, adding warmth through soft lighting, considered details, and the natural texture of the space itself.

Personal touches mattered more than grand gestures here: the family samosas, the live music threading through dinner, the way the room was arranged to encourage movement and conversation. Nothing competed for attention. Everything served the atmosphere.

THE EVENING CELEBRATION

The shift from dinner to dancing came with reinforcements. Additional evening guests arrived as the tables were cleared, lifting the energy in the room just as the evening began to find its rhythm.

The pianist returned for a second set, calling the expanded crowd together before handing over to the DJ. A final thank-you speech marked the transition, and from there, the dancefloor belonged to everyone. The party ran until the lights came up, fuelled by good music and the momentum of a room that had been building all day.

His images balance the scale of the celebration with its quieter details: the ceremony at the Town Hall, the pianist mid-set, the dancefloor at full capacity. Honest, unhurried, and full of warmth.
