The Space

A Cafe and Coffee Shop on Hackney Road

The cafe sits inside a restored 1856 brewery. Take a table under the glass roof of the winter garden, among the hanging plants, or sit out on the covered terrace. There's free wifi and plenty of plug sockets, so bring the laptop. Dogs are welcome inside and out, and there's no need to book.

We opened in 2015 as Hackney Coffee Company. Same coffee-first cafe, now under The Hackney name.

A Cafe-Bar For Most Of Your Week

Coffee Meetings

A flat white, a quiet table and nobody rushing you out. Open from 8.30am, Wednesday to Friday.

Laptop Work

Long tables in the winter garden, free wifi and a plug within reach. Stay for an hour or for the afternoon.

Weekend Mornings

Coffee, pastries and light bites from 9am. Some Saturdays the building is booked for a private event, so check Google Maps before you come.

Coffee And A Glass Of Something

Open 9am to 4pm on Sundays. Coffee, a glass of wine and the covered terrace when the sun is out. Bring the dog. Bring the paper.

After Dark

Yes. Dogs are welcome inside and on the terrace.

Do I need to book a table?

No. The cafe-bar is walk-in only. Just turn up.

What are the opening hours?

We reopen on Wednesday 4 November. From then we are open Wednesday to Sunday (closed Mondays and Tuesdays), 8.30am to 4pm on weekdays and 9am to 4pm at weekends. Hours can change when the venue hosts a private event, so check Google Maps for today's live hours.

Can I work from the cafe?

Yes. We have free wifi, plug sockets, and plenty of space during the day. Lots of freelancers and remote workers use us as a regular spot.
