Bonnie Chung Book Launch
Some events carry a particular energy. Not loud, not staged, but deeply felt.
This week, The Hackney played host to the UK and European launch of MISO, the long-awaited new book by Bonnie Chung . A project fifteen years in the making, and a moment that marked the culmination of deep expertise, obsession, and love for a single ingredient.
The evening was a celebration of focus, craft, and doing one thing exceptionally well.
THE STORY BEHIND MISO

MISO is not simply a recipe book. It is a manifesto for an ingredient that Bonnie has spent over a decade teaching, exploring, and championing.
Completely rewritten from its first edition ten years ago, the book goes beyond what to cook. It explains how to use miso, why it matters, and how it transforms food at a fundamental level. Knowledge built slowly, deliberately, and with purpose.
The launch marked the book’s UK and European publication, ahead of its US, Canadian, and Australian releases later this year.
AN EVENING ROOTED IN PRESENCE

The launch event itself reflected the spirit of the book.
Guests gathered in a warm, relaxed setting, allowing conversations to unfold naturally. There were no forced moments, no rigid structure. Instead, the evening flowed with ease, shaped by curiosity, connection, and shared appreciation for food and craft.
Bonnie chose to stay fully present throughout the night, leaving phones aside and allowing the moment to breathe. A decision that felt entirely in keeping with the philosophy behind her work.
THE HACKNEY AS A BACKDROP

Set against The Hackney’s historic East London interiors, the space provided a calm, confident backdrop for the evening.
Architectural light, textured surfaces, and an intimate atmosphere allowed the focus to remain exactly where it should be: on the people, the conversation, and the work being celebrated.
It was a reminder of how the venue works best. Not as a stage, but as a setting that supports meaningful gatherings of all kinds.
THANK YOU

The evening was made possible with the support of HarperCollins Publishers and Belazu , alongside a community of friends, collaborators, and supporters who have followed Bonnie’s journey over many years.
