Verity & Andy

Verity & Andy on their wedding day at The Hackney

Some weddings feel effortless from the very first moment. Not because they lack detail, but because every element has been thoughtfully considered, creating a day that feels natural, joyful, and entirely true to the couple at its centre.

Verity and Andy’s June wedding at The Hackney was exactly that. Warm sunshine, generous hospitality, and a relaxed elegance carried the celebration from an intimate morning ceremony through to a lively evening party filled with laughter and dancing.

The ceremony

Verity and Andy exchanged vows at Hackney Town Hall, choosing a ceremony that felt personal and rooted in their East London story. The elegant setting provided a heartfelt beginning to the day, allowing the couple and their guests to share those first emotional moments before the celebrations continued nearby.

Arrival at The Hackney

After the ceremony, guests made their way to The Hackney, where the converted Victorian brewery opened its doors for an afternoon of celebration. The atmosphere lifted immediately. Signature cocktails were flowing at the bar (Margaritas, Aperol Spritzes), while a selection of canapés circulated through the space: lamb bonbons with mint gel, coffee-cured salmon blinis, and raw courgette involtini.

A reception designed for connection

The reception unfolded with a rhythm that encouraged conversation and connection. Guests moved naturally between the venue’s characterful spaces, settling into the warm atmosphere as afternoon light filled the room. A polaroid station invited guests to capture candid moments, while garden games including Giant Jenga and ring toss added a playful energy to the welcome drinks. Sugared almonds on a styled favours table near the entrance offered a sweet welcome for everyone arriving.

Food, drink and shared moments

Guests were seated across two long banquet tables with a top table at the head of the room, creating a sense of togetherness that set the tone for the meal.

The menu showcased the best of seasonal British cooking. Braised rib of beef arrived as the centrepiece, slow-cooked and rich, with baked celeriac and mushroom as an equally satisfying vegetarian option. Chocolate cremeux brought the meal to a silky close.

Wine flowed throughout - a crisp Castellari Bergaglio Gavi Salluvii complementing the earlier courses, a smooth Waddesdon Rothschild Pinot Noir pairing with the beef. At the bar, Cosmopolitans and Espresso Martinis kept spirits high as the afternoon stretched into evening.

Speeches wove through the meal, each one adding warmth and laughter. From heartfelt words to stories that left guests doubled over, these moments punctuated the feast with genuine emotion.

Style notes

The styling balanced modern elegance with natural warmth. Tables dressed with chalk urbane runners laid across bare wood, gold charger plates adding a subtle luxe touch beneath crisp white crockery. Bud vases holding delicate arrangements lined the centre of each table, interspersed with tapered candles that would glow softly as evening approached.

The standout feature was a flower wall installation, a lush backdrop of soft pinks, golds, and natural greens that perfectly framed the celebration. The floristry hit exactly the right note, enhancing the venue’s industrial character without overwhelming it. Natural-design wedding stationery tied everything together, with a welcome sign and printed menus at each place setting.

The evening

When tables were cleared for dancing, additional evening guests arrived to join the party, greeted with welcome drinks and a reading from a close friend that set the tone for the hours ahead. The newlyweds re-entered to cheers, cutting into their cake before their first dance drew everyone to the edge of the floor. The DJ took over, filling the space with music that kept the dancefloor packed until late.

Evening food at 7:30pm: salt beef bagels and chips alongside pulled jackfruit vegan tacos, something satisfying for hungry dancers. The kind of party that carried itself, fuelled by good company, great music, and the unmistakable energy of a day that had brought so many people together.
